SONI090 – Client-Side Advisor
A practical guide to understanding what SONI really wants and how to build a winning response.
Think about the partnership, not just the project
The biggest clue in this tender is the role itself — Client-Side Advisor.
This isn’t just about IT and cybersecurity.
It’s about being a trusted partner to SONI, working alongside their teams, not just providing an external service.
Understanding this is crucial.
SONI is looking for someone to augment their internal capabilities, providing leadership and assurance to help them navigate the complexities of their Corporate IT Separation Programme and the establishment of a Security Operations Centre.
Remember who you're trying to convince
You’re not just dealing with procurement officers here.
Your audience is SONI’s programme and technical teams.
They’ll be looking for someone who understands the challenges they face and can genuinely support them.
This means demonstrating empathy and insight into their operational environment.
Show that you’re on their side, ready to help them succeed.
Don't underestimate the importance of assurance
If I were evaluating bids, I’d be keenly focused on how well the bidder can deliver technical and test assurance.
This isn’t about just ticking boxes.
SONI needs confidence that you can provide robust oversight of their systems integrators and suppliers.
Explain how you’ll ensure quality and consistency in every step of the programme.
Assurance is what they’re really buying.
Evidence always beats promises
One thing I noticed when I worked in the public sector was that almost every bidder claimed to deliver an excellent service.
Very few proved it.
If you have evidence, use it.
- Case studies of similar roles
- References from past clients
- Certifications or accreditations relevant to programme management and cybersecurity
- Examples of successfully managing complex IT transitions
Pay attention to what they say
SONI’s framework is clear about a few things.
They’re governed by the Procurement Act 2023, which means they can reopen the framework to new suppliers.
This is significant.
They’re telling you that the relationship is about long-term trust and adaptability.
They’re not just looking for a one-off service provider.
They want a partner who can grow with them.
Think about the whole framework
This is a framework, not a one-off contract.
Winning a place is just the first step.
Once on the framework, you’re part of a competitive pool.
Being awarded work will depend on your ability to stand out in further competitions or to be selected for direct awards.
That means keeping your offer fresh and relevant over time.
Show how you'll make life easier for SONI
Every contract creates work for the client.
The best contractors reduce that workload.
If I were writing this tender, I'd be explaining how my management processes make life easier for SONI’s teams.
How will you integrate with their existing processes?
How will you ensure seamless collaboration?
Consistency over the contract term
SONI’s framework runs from 1 February 2027 to 31 January 2029.
Potentially extending to 31 January 2030.
That’s a long time to maintain service quality.
I’d want to see exactly what happens when someone calls in sick.
How will you ensure consistent service delivery?
Staffing.
Not technology.
Not systems.
People are the key here.
Common mistakes
Avoid submissions that:
- Focus only on technical capabilities without addressing partnership
- Lack clear evidence of similar past roles
- Ignore the importance of programme management and assurance
- Fail to demonstrate understanding of SONI’s operational context
- Overpromise without clear delivery plans
- Neglect the importance of collaboration with SONI’s internal teams
- Assume that winning a place guarantees work
- Provide generic responses instead of tailored solutions
My Final Thoughts
What SONI is really looking for is a partner they can rely on.
A partner who understands their needs and can help them navigate complex IT and cybersecurity challenges.
The framework value is £6.3 million over two years, possibly extending to three.
It’s a substantial opportunity.
Quality and reliability are what will win you a place.
That's what I'd build my submission around.
Thanks for reading.
